hat

November 8, 2011

I made a hat.

It has my initials on the inside AND a tassel.

It’s too dorky to wear to work, so I wear it on the weekends, and in the evenings after work when my house is all dark and hasn’t warmed up yet from cooking dinner, and sometimes in the mornings right after I get out of bed and before I have to start getting ready for work. It’s a shiny tinfoil hat that shields me from dangerous daylight savings-related mood flux.

I love it a lot.

That is all. Except for this. But how do you even bring that up, you know?

Yes winter!!!

Every girl should have a hat like that. I have a hat that I wear when I’m feeling rainy inside, and it makes it all better. Moreover, I have dropped said hat numerous times, and someone always returns it to me. I like to think that in addition to chasing away moodiness, it is also loyal. I haven’t the faintest idea how to knit one for myself, though, so touche on that.

And congrats, congrats :) What a lovely surprise.

        Hah! That is awesome. CONGRATS!!

Cute hat… I wish I had the patience for knitting. Instead I intend to rule the world with my sewing machine.

Is the hat double lined? The initials and year always impress me. I selfishly hope this blog stays true to bees, chickens, plants, and wallpaper.

It’s a tube! It’s Meg Swanson’s Dubbelmosa. Here’s the ravelry link You just poke in one end so it fits on your head, but you can make it a long hat or a short one or and fold it up to four thicknessess if you, you know, don’t live in California. It’s wizardry.

And the other thing– we shall never, ever speak of it again.

    hello…
    aw yay!
    sneaky :)

  8. November 8, 2011 2:26 pm

I was WONDERING when you were going to announce it here!

also, I might need to commission you to knit me a hat. Because my big head + big hair make it really, really hard for me to buy ones off the rack that fit, and my knitting skillz are nowhere close to yours.

    • November 8, 2011 2:39 pm

The total, total magic of selective posting– you can grow a huge belly and be moody and maybe let your house become a total mess and keep wearing the same pair of pants that still fit over and over again even though they’re all ripped up and have paint and yesterday’s breakfast on them and NOBODY GETS TO KNOW about any of it unless you want them to.

I knit you a hat, you help me figure out what color to paint my bathroom?

that pretty much sounds like the *best deal ever* (for me!) we can talk about it over lunch

Congratulations!! (on the hat AND the wee one!!)
When I was pregnant, a million years ago… my mother in law (a most extraordinary knitter) told me she was going to knit a bunting for the baby… the only bunting I knew of was the patriotic swags at political conventions, etc… so I figured my wee little fellow would be swathed in red, white and blue decorations… imagine my delight upon receiving a blue bunting with yellow ducks, holding red umbrellas… paddling in the water!!

I have also been noticing the lack of posts. What an exciting and clever way to announce the news, without… you know, announcing it? Congrats again!

AND THAT HAT. THAT HAT IS AMAZING.
